This workshop has evolved from using the Pyramid Approach to Education when working in classes alongside teachers and support staff over the last 6 years. Through discussion, video and practical activities the workshop focuses on ways to create meaningful learning activities, motivate students, develop functional communication, organise resources to develop functional communication, communicate with and manage staff, consider strategies for pupils with communication difficulties to access the National Curriculum using PECS; the strategies can be applied to other modalities. Delegates will participate in practical activities designed to be useful in planning effective lessons, and will leave with easy to implement strategies to improve any educational environment. The workshop is relevant for those working with both primary and secondary aged students with communication difficulties. This workshop has given me a clear understanding of the importance of PECS and valuable stratergies that could meet individual needs.
